Although the FCHS is not affiliated with the Floyd County Dog Pound, we work closely with them to promote pet adoption and animal welfare. Whereas dogs in FCHS care are kept in private foster homes until their adoption, the Floyd County Dog Pound is not a “no kill” shelter. Therefore, animals in their care can only be held a limited time before they are euthanized. We encourage you to browse the dogs available for adoption at the shelter when considering a pet for your family.

For more information on any of the dogs at the Floyd County Pound, call 540-745-9365 and speak with one of the Animal Control Officers for the most up to date information about these dogs.  You may also e-mail our liaison with the pound, Debbie, at janrose@swva.net.

The pound charges $10 to adopt animals but this does not include ANY of the required vet care including spay/neuter services.  There is a residency requirement (state law) and you must live in Floyd County or one of the ones that adjoins it – Montgomery, Roanoke, Franklin, Patrick or Carroll counties.  Individuals and rescue groups outside the area should contact Debbie at janrose@swva.net.
