About
The mission of Floyd County Humane Society is to advocate and provide for the welfare, protection, and humane treatment of companion animals in Floyd County, VA. The organization first met in 1998 and was officially incorporated in 2000, with immediate goals to reduce pet overpopulation and find new homes for unwanted animals.
Today, we support hundreds of animals each year through rescue, adoption, and community programs like medical care, food assistance, discounted spay/neuter, Trap-Neuter-Return, and other programs.
2025 Impact Report
With the support of our community, we helped animals and families across Floyd County at an extraordinary pace, averaging one animal rescue every two days!
By the numbers
- Rescued 52 dogs and 130 cats
- Supported 133 feral cats through our Trap-Neuter-Return program
- Provided 172 community spay/neuter surgeries
- Offered $11,410 in spay/neuter assistance for community members
- Assisted with $2,136 in emergency medical care for pets
- Distributed 6,464 pounds (more than 3 tons) of pet food to local families
- Vaccinated 86 animals at our Fall Rabies Clinic
Behind every number is a dedicated volunteer. In 2025 alone, volunteers contributed 14,808 hours (the equivalent of seven full-time staff members) to care for animals, educate pet owners, and strengthen our community.
Additionally, we were honored to receive local grant support from the Community Foundation of the New River Valley ($2,000) and the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies ($1,500), helping us extend our reach even further.
None of this would be possible without our amazing community. Local generosity fuels every rescue, every surgery, every bag of food, and every second of care.
